ARLINGTON, Texas – In a season filled with challenges on and off the field, the No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners were more than up to the challenge of winning the 85th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.

Oklahoma rolled up a Cotton Bowl record 684 yards on the way to a 55-20 domination of the No. 7 Florida Gators.

The Sooners, who won the Big 12 Championship on the same AT&T Stadium turf just 11 days earlier, set a program record for points in a bowl game. Oklahoma broke the record of 633 yards set against them by Texas A&M in the 2013 Classic.

Senior running back Rhamondre Stevenson fueled OU's offensive attack with 186 yards and a touchdown on just 18 carries. Stevenson was named the J. Curtis Sanford Outstanding Offensive Player of the Game.

Oklahoma's 435 rushing yards eclipsed a Cotton Bowl record that had stood since 1946, when Missouri rushed for 408 against Texas.

Sooners quarterback Spencer Rattler put an exclamation mark on his redshirt sophomore season with 247 passing yards and three touchdowns.

The 85th Classic was filled with big plays and big moments in front of a crowd of 17,323.

Florida was making its first appearance in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic with a roster limited to 60 scholarship players. Oklahoma was playing in its third Cotton Bowl and looked at home from the start.

While Oklahoma's offense put up eye-popping numbers, it was a resurgent Sooner defense that was the dominant factor in the early going.

The Sooners intercepted Florida quarterback Kyle Trask three times in the first quarter. Trask, a Heisman Trophy finalist, had thrown just five interceptions all season.

After Oklahoma (9-2) scored on the opening drive, Sooners cornerback Tre Norwood picked off a pass and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead. Norwood would be named the Felix McKnight Outstanding Defensive Player of the Game.

Florida's next possession resulted in another interception as Oklahoma's Brian Asamoah snatched a tipped pass out of the air. That led to a 43-yard field goal by Gabe Brkic and Oklahoma's first quarter lead swelled to 17-0.

Florida (8-4) then drove to the Oklahoma 10 yard line, but Woodi Washington intercepted another Trask pass in the end zone.

In the second quarter the game briefly turned into the close contest many expected. Florida engineered a 16-play scoring drive to pull within 17-10. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Emory Jones, who directed most of the drive, scored on a one-yard keeper.

Then following an Oklahoma turnover, Evan McPherson booted his second field goal to trim the Sooners' lead to 17-13 with 6:05 left in the half.

The close score didn't last long as Rattler hit Theo Wease on a short crossing pattern and Wease turned upfield for a 36-yard touchdown. Rattler then scored on a one-yard run just before halftime and Oklahoma's lead ballooned to 31-13.

The Sooners eventually scored 38 straight points, including a 97-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter, for a 55-13 lead with 6:11 remaining in the game.
