ARLINGTON, Texas – Missouri junior quarterback Brady Cook earned the J. Curtis Sanford Trophy as the Offensive Most Valuable Player in the 88th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. Cook's outstanding performance lifted the No. 9 Tigers to a 14-3 win over the No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes in a defensive battle at AT&T Stadium.
The signal-caller from St. Louis finished the game with 128 passing yards, 66 rushing yards and a seven-yard passing touchdown. The Tiger offense was held scoreless in the first three quarters but came alive after Cook connected with freshman wide receiver Marquis Johnson for a 50-yard reception deep into Ohio State territory. Missouri senior running back Cody Schrader then capped the drive with the first touchdown of the game.
On their next drive, Cook led the Tigers' offense on a 91-yard drive that ended with a seven-yard passing touchdown to sophomore wide receiver Luther Burden III. The two fourth-quarter touchdowns clinched Missouri's third triumph in the Cotton Bowl Classic.
Cook's performance closed out a 2023 campaign that included a career-best 3,317 passing yards and 29 total touchdowns. He led Missouri to its first bowl win over an Associated Press top-10 team since defeating Navy in the 1961 Orange Bowl to cap a magical season for the Tigers.
