ARLINGTON, Texas – Betty Sanford Crawford, a longtime member of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association's Board of Directors, passed away on Friday, July 30, at her home in Dallas at the age of 75. Her father, J. Curtis Sanford, founded the Cotton Bowl Classic.

Since her youth, the Classic had been a family affair for Betty. She carried on her father's legacy with a continued passion and love for the game that he created on New Year's Day in 1937. She was appointed to the role of Life Director in 2016, succeeding her mother, Ms. Betty Sanford.

Betty's husband, John F. Crawford, served as CBAA Chairman from 1994-96. Daughters Courtney Slater, Kristin Andreasen and Elizabeth Bentrup have followed suit by working in key roles on the Classic's operations team. Now, her eight grandchildren have joined in on the bowl's traditions.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas Avenue, Dallas, TX 75225 on Thursday, Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the ALS Association of Texas, Dallas Arboretum and Cotton Bowl Foundation.
