ARLINGTON, Texas – A signature initiative of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic returned during the 2022 football season as the Classic's Art Contest saw a record number of entries and all-time high support from the Cotton Bowl Foundation.
The Cotton Bowl Classic Art Contest was back and better than ever following a two-year hiatus with a record high of more than 10,500 entries from an all-time high of 150 elementary schools across six North Texas counties – Dallas, Collin, Tarrant, Denton, Rockwall and Wise. The Cotton Bowl Foundation ramped up its support for the 24th edition of this beloved Classic tradition with $75,000 distributed to help art teachers with art supplies and support art-centric programs.

"We're happy to have our Art Contest back to complement our bowl activities and celebration of college football in our community," said Dave Brown, Chair, Cotton Bowl Athletic Association and Cotton Bowl Foundation. "The enthusiasm we received from so many art teachers to embrace our Art Contest really shows the reach of the Cotton Bowl Classic and what it means to have art integrated into the curriculum in our schools."
The students' submissions have been laminated and will be distributed as gifts to the Tulane and Southern California student-athletes, coaches and administrators and used as placemats at select events during Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic week. The first-place winners get to present their artwork to USC head coach Lincoln Riley and Tulane head coach Willie Fritz at the Classic Big Play Breakfast. All of the winners are set to have their artwork proudly displayed at their respective schools and AT&T Stadium inside the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association offices throughout the year.
The Cotton Bowl Classic Art Contest has been a treasured part of the bowl experience for more than three decades. The contest ran consecutively for 23 years before being canceled for the 85th (2020) and 86th (2021) Classics due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
