ARLINGTON, Texas – The Cotton Bowl Athletic Association surprised Goodyear with a token of appreciation at its Board of Directors meeting on November 2 at AT&T Stadium. CBAA Chair Dave Brown and President/Chief Executive Officer Rick Baker unveiled a Wingfoot sculpture, made out of recycled Goodyear tires, to Goodyear Chief Marketing Officer Meg Lee.
The sculpture, created and commissioned by
Blake McFarland, stands five feet and weighs more than 300 pounds. This Wingfoot sculpture is set to be permanently displayed at Goodyear's headquarters in Akron, Ohio. The plaque included on the base of the sculpture reads as follows:
A Partnership Like No Other
The Cotton Bowl Athletic Association presents this sculpture to Goodyear in appreciation and recognition for its outstanding partnership, dedicated support and drive to take the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic to new heights.
McFarland, a retired professional baseball player turned artist/sculptor, annually creates the mascot tire art depicting the two teams participating in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. These mascot sculptures have become a signature program associated with the Classic and are gifted to the respective institutions after the game to be displayed on their respective campuses.
Goodyear and the Cotton Bowl Classic celebrated their eighth anniversary as partners on November 7. It was on November 7, 2014, when Goodyear reached an agreement with ESPN and the CBAA to become the Classic's title sponsor and change the game's name to the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
